Life Map:
The point of a life map is to get your ideas in order and begin thinking about memorable incidents, challenging experiences, and accomplishments that have helped shape the person you are. This will help you identify the single most important event in your life and will also help you choose which event you would like to write about for your memoir.
Begin your map with the first memorable incident, challenging experience, or accomplishment that you can remember and continue on in the order of your life until you have AT LEAST TEN total incidents. When you are finished with your map, you will have a variety of incidents (both positive and negative) to choose from.
When illustrating the events of your life, be creative. If it is a positive event, reflect that in your illustration. If it is a negative event, do the same. For example, if a memorable incident is when you chose not to get on the school bus, it probably didn't go so well for you when your parents found out. Therefore, that would be a negative decision that you made, so you might choose to illustrate it with thunder and lightning. However, if an accomplishment is winning the school spelling bee, that is a positive event, so you might illustrate it with an A+ or balloons.
If there was an incident, challenging experience, or accomplishment that completely changed your life, you might want to illustrate that with a fork in the road on your map. This is your life and your map, so make it representative of you. Be as creative as you can be.
